Subject: Memory Above 16MB Not Available on HP 486
Date: August 2, 1990
OS Version: 386

GENERAL
INFORMATION: The auto-register memory above 16MB is not working on the
Hewlett Packard Vectra 486. It only sees 16MB when there is
actually 32MB installed. The information for how to see the
memory above 16MB was provided by Compaq. We were informed
that it would work on all EISA machines. It works fine on
Compaqs but not on this machine. Either Hewlett Packard is
out of spec or the information provided to us really is not
applicable for all EISA machines.
This was not detected during the system test of v3.10
because all of the EISA machines that we had with more than
16MB were Compaqs and they all worked correctly.
To get around this problem for the time being, you will need
to place the following command in your AUTOEXEC.NCF file,
right after the server name and IPX address are assigned:
REGISTER MEMORY 1000000 1000000 (This is for a 32MB Machine)
This will allow the extra memory to be available when the
volumes are mounted. We will work with H.P. to find out
what they or we will need to change in order to correct
this problem. It is possible that EISA machines from
vendors other than Compaq may have this problem too. If so,
just use the above work-around.
